In this project, we designed a hospital suitable for the African continent. Rather than presenting our design to the client in a typical spiral bound folder we created a book which illustrated our design in a unique and creative manner. See the photos below.
This book serves as base document which defines the parameters of a particular hospital.
Our project constraints were vague, however it was important to consider the climate of the equatorial region. The proposal is outlined in the following points:
- Hospitals must variable in pacient capacity, different placement options on land are considered.
- In The African region their is a lacked of adaquately skilled hospital personnel, as such the hospital must be design for maximum effectivness.
- In the equatorial regions, the average annual temperature is approximately 28(°C), their is high humidity and periods of monsoon rain. Due to these conditions we maximise natural ventilation, use double ventilated foundations/roofs and have a large roof overhang.
- The interior is designed to ensure patients can locate the various departments within the hospital from using only signage and without assistance from hospital personnel.
